Drawing on the work of García’s extensive research with emergent bilinguals, the presenter defines translanguaging and distinguishes it from code switching. She describes strategic uses of translanguaging, providing specific classroom examples of how translanguaging leads to the acquisition of English, supports content learning, and affirms student identity.
