Dr. Janice Pilgreen will take participants down Memory Lane by reviewing the Look-Say Method as it was pioneered by the iconic Dick and Jane series of the mid-twentieth century. Placing the series into an historical context of constantly-changing literacy methodology, she will identify ten effective instructional components of this legendary approach to reading which still have a place in teaching contexts today, particularly for English learners, both young and old. Participants will view illustrations and read short text excerpts that represent critical elements of literacy teaching for the twenty-first century, even though these components were originally introduced long ago.
CATESOL 2017 Award Winners are announced at the beginning of each plenary.
