Feedback form is now closed.
Emergent bilinguals face new challenges in the 21 st Century. They must meet Common Core standards to compete in school and adapt to a rapidly changing society. In order to do this, they need the academic language of school to read, write about, and discuss the challenging content of school. The presenter explains seven research-based principles for teaching English learners. For each principle, she describes activities and shows PowerPoint slides from classrooms of teachers who use a variety of strategies to scaffold instruction and help emergent bilinguals develop the academic language and subject matter knowledge needed to succeed in school. Participants will be involved in activities that help them apply the principles to their own contexts.
