Eye tracking and reading awareness: Boosting relationships with reading
The Eye Movement and Reading Awareness lab (EMRA) explores the use of an eye tracking camera in creating student awareness of reading behavior. Students discuss their L1/L2 reading habits before recording a reading of a short text which is then discussed. Results show visible reading changes over a semester.

Researchers present findings of multilingual students’ reading habits through social media dialect, tracing progress through a writing pre-test, reading as treatment, and a writing post-test. Word-for-word paraphrasing in community college summary writers
To avoid plagiarism, ESL summary writers often resort to word-for-word paraphrasing. The presenter will show errors ascribable to this strategy and their effect on summary quality. The presenter will also discuss teaching strategies to prevent word-for-word paraphrasing and will elicit exchange of ideas regarding classroom practice and further research.
