In an increasingly visual world, digital infographics are effective tools that students can use to present visually appealing data, information, and statistics. This 20-minute teaching tip will introduce the use of digital infographic tools such as Visme and Venngage that can be incorporated into ESL reading, writing, and content classes.

The presenter will demonstrate how the use of simple analogies engage students in learning academic writing. The examples shown can be used to teach a variety of academic topics such as paragraph organization, cohesive elements, insertions of paraphrases and citations, etc. Handouts will be shared.
The tech term, “dogfooding” describes testing new programs prior to release. Gonzales (2015) applies the term to education, referring to teachers completing assignments rather than simply assigning them. This presentation will include the reflections of an instructor who attempted the practice. Challenges, benefits, and student reactions will all be discussed.
