It is no secret that smart phones can be a teacher’s worst enemy, but how can we make we them our best friend? This demonstration will introduce educators to the Google Hangouts app and teach how it can be used to increase: cultural interaction, practice, and meaningful learning inside and outside of the EL classroom through a hands on training session.

Parents of emergent bilingual students have the most vested interest to advocate for their children’s needs, yet don’t always have the language ability to express them effectively. This session presents strategies to engage parents, including meaningful two-way communication with a free app, resulting in attendees creating a parent engagement plan.
